Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Scholars (TXTNS)’s Vice President, Autumn Lauener, testifies in opposition to SB 406 which bans trans people in Texas from updating their birth certificate.
Some of Autumn’s points are below:
💬 “This bill is a solution in search of a problem. It makes it harder for transgender Texans to access education, employment, and housing.”
🔍 Research shows that denying transgender individuals accurate IDs leads to increased job loss, housing instability, and worsened mental health. Autumn made it clear: legal recognition is a public health issue.
🚨 SB 406 doesn’t strengthen Texas—it weakens it by blocking access to financial aid, jobs, and stable housing. We must stand against government overreach that harms Texans instead of solving real problems.
